THE RULES ARE CHANGING NEW AML & CTF LAWS IN REAL ESTATE

Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Counter-Terrorism Financing (CTF) laws are officially expanding to the real estate sector to help dettect and deter organised financial crime

If you are planning to buy or sell property from July1, 2026, the process is going to look a little different.

This will apply to all buyers and sellers

These new mandatory verification laws apply to everyone transacting in the property market whether you are the buyer or the seller.

The extra compliance checks are required across all sale types, including:

  • Private treaty sales
  • Property auctions
  • Off-the-plan purchases

Before an agent can legally finalise your purchase or sale, you must pass a “Customer Due Diligence” check.

Your information remains secure

It is natural to worry about handing over additional financial details, but the law strictly protects you. Real estate agents are legally required to handle your personal information with strict confidentiality.

All collected data must be stored securely and can only be used for the sole purpose of meeting these mandatory government compliance laws.
